Free Barney Butter Sample

I just so happened to look on the Barney Butter website today and to my delight, saw that they are giving out free samples to the first 1000 respondents.


I have a love/hate relationship with diet coke. I love it. But I hate that I love it so much. About six months ago, I went from drinking roughly 4-5 diet cokes a day to maybe 2 a week. It was hard and I got headaches in the beginning, but I weaned myself off of it.

It seems like the harder I try to lose weight, the harder the struggle is to not drink diet soda. I know that there are studies that show that artificial sweeteners lead to weight gain, but in my experience that wasn’t true. I am a snacker. Whether it’s out of habit or out of boredom, I eat when I’m not hungry. It’s so much easier to just drink a calorie free soda and kill the craving for something. It’s a paradox, I know it’s not good for me, but it does help me not to eat.

I’ve tried seltzer, I’ve tried seltzer with juice, it’s not the same. Really, the only thing that I like is diet coke. Other diet sodas, meh. Crysal light, bleh. I actually drink a good amount of water. I fill up a 2.2 liter bottle and drink the whole thing during the course of the work day.

I haven’t completely reverted back to my old ways, but I have been drinking at least 1 diet coke a day. It’s just so hard when I’m trying not to mindlessly eat.

What’s Next?

As part of my New Years resolutions to keep running after a big race, I have already picked another running goal. It’s much shorter of a distance but I really want to work on speed. So, here’s what’s next:

Sweetwater 5K

I’ve run this race before. I think it was last year but might have been 2007. No, it was last year because Jason was with me and we weren’t dating in April of 2007. Anyway, my goal for this is to do a sub 30 minute 5K. Preferably, sub 29 minute if I can. My fastest 5K time is 30 and some change so it’s definitely doable. This is a fun neighborhood race that ends with a festival. It’s also conveniently on the Saturday before my birthday which is when some friends and I are going out to dinner later that evening. Makes for a fun day. And, I just noticed that you get a free beer at the end. Score!

I think I am going to follow my pal Hal’s Intermediate 5K plan and just start on Week 6. I am going to take a few days off this week though so I might not run until the end of the week.

I can’t believe the weekend is over. I spent the entire day eating and sleeping. Well, not true, I did make it to Petsmart and Kroger. For dinner, I made my version of a Willy’s salad.


I used TJ’s chicken fajita mix, WF reduced fat guac, salsa and a little bit of mozzarella on some romaine lettuce. I forgot that Willy’s uses black beans. I should have put that in too. It was good though, though not as good as Willy’s.
