Going Out on Thursday

Remember how in college the weekend started on Thursday night?  Actually the weekend started on Thursday night for me until about four years ago and then I got old and couldn’t handle a Friday at work if I had been out on Thursday night.  That said, I did go out this past Thursday night.  I can make an exception.

I’ve liked Guster since college and though their sound has changed some over the years, I still like seeing them live.  Definitely makes me kind of nostalgic.  This particular show was part of their acoustic tour.  They took some audience requests and did some funny stuff like switched instruments for certain songs.

The show ended at 11 and I was home by 11:30, but I was kind of pumped up and could not fall asleep until 12:30.  So, come Friday night, I was pretty tired.  Originally, I had plans with my dinner club, but it got cancelled.  Since we were planning on going out, we had no food in the house and I didn’t feel like going grocery shopping so we looked on Scoutmob to see if there were any good restaurants with a deal.

We ended up at Penang, a Malaysian restaurant that was in the same shopping center as Mini Hot Pot.  We decided to split two entrees, the Jumbo Shrimp with a Spicy Thai Sauce…

and the Sambal Petal.

The jumbo shrimp was good, but it wasn’t peeled and peeling shrimp that’s covered in a sauce is really messy.  The sambal petal (also shrimp) was peeled and easier to eat, but very oily.

And then I went to sleep at 9:30.  I just can’t hang like I used to.

  1. My boss told me about the instrument switching! That sounds like so much fun. Wish I’d gone!

  2. Since I work from home on Fridays now, I tend to go out more on Thursdays than I used to. But I hate going out on Fridays, unless it’s just to watch a movie or something.
Sounds like a great show. I love acoustic sets.
