About a month ago, I purchased a Groupon to go ice skating at the Park Tavern. The Park Tavern is well, a tavern at the park, and it’s kind of strange that they set up an ice rink in the wintertime, but they do, so I figured it’d be fun to check out. Our Groupon expires in two weeks, so we decided to go today.
When I was in like 8th or 9th grade, ice skating was the cool thing to do. There was an ice rink pretty close to my house and though my friends and I weren’t very good, we’d go often enough that we weren’t terrible either. And then when we got cars or friends with cars, we stopped going to the ice skating rink so much. I don’t think I’ve been since, until today. Jason had never been.
The Park Tavern ice rink was pretty small. We went around noon, so it wasn’t super crowded. There were more kids than adults and several birthday parties being held. The Cabin John ice rink, where I used to go in my teens, was probably 4 times the size. But that’s okay, I mean this rink is in a tavern.
After a few slow laps around the rink, I got the hang of it again.
I’m going so fast, the picture is blurry. Just go with that, okay? Jason picked it up right away too.
We skated for about 45 minutes and didn’t fall at all. After a while, though, we got kind of bored and left. I mean, you can only skate in circles around a tiny rink for so long.
I’m embarrassed to say that I’m kind of sore already.
Fun! I have been wanting to go try out the rink. It’s been years since I’ve been too.
Aww, fun. We went skating a few years ago when we lived in PA. Kind of scary how UNsteady on my feet I was– I felt like I was always about .2 seconds away from a major wipe-out.
I’ve never tried the ice rink but mostly because I’ve had my fair share of falls on ice before and it’s not fun. I’m glad you had fun!

I don’t know if I’ve ever been ice skating! If I have, it was when I was really little. I used to go to a roller rink all the time when I was a kid, but I was never that great. I need to try ice skating!
Fun! Jeff and I need to try more dates like this, doing stuff we never normally do.
I was always really bad at ice skating. It would be fun to go again though.
HA. Love this! I haven’t gone ice skating with Scott before either but I totally want to. I used to have pretty mad ice skating skillz (I even played ice hockey one year in high school lol). Not sure those ‘skillz’ still exist, but in my head they still do hehe
How cool that they have ice skating there – I keep wanting to do that, but just no time. There’s ice skating at a beautiful lake about 45 minutes from me that I really hope to do before it gets too warm.
