You know how it is when you still don’t really feel well but it’s Saturday and you try to fake it? Yeah, that happened. I didn’t really feel too bad though, so I decided that I should run. It was a nice day out, on the warm side (sorry New Englanders), really the perfect running outside weather. Since I’m doing a 10K in a month, I thought 5 miles sounded like a good distance to tackle. But my stomach told me otherwise and as soon as I started running, it started to hurt. I managed to do a run/walk combination for 4 miles but it was pretty bad.
I guess I should have known something was still off when come 3pm, the only thing I’d eaten all day was a bowl of cereal and I still wasn’t hungry. But I was still feeling like I could fake my way into feeling better. So Jason and I had an early dinner at Victory Sandwich Bar. He’d been wanting to go there since it was featured on Anthony Bourdain’s show, The Layover, a couple weeks ago.

As you can probably guess from the name, they sell sandwiches. The inside has a interesting vibe. It’s like part sub shop, part bar and very hipster.

The menu had sandwiches, a few sides and a few salads to choose from.

On the back, they had a drink menu and Jason ordered what they are known for: their Jack and Coke Slushies. Fun, right?

I don’t like whiskey, so I just had a sip or two of his. Now if they had a Rum and Coke slushie, I would have been all about it. For my meal, I got the Weed Eater sandwich which was buffalo mozzarella, avocado, hummus and arugula. (with a side of lactaid – jury is out on whether or not I have a dairy intolerance.)

The sandwiches all came with chips and were definitely on the small side, but that was fine with me because they were really cheap and also, my whole lack of appetite thing. They offered a hummus of the week, which we also tried. It was some sort of curry and onion hummus. It was okay. I liked the sandwich better. Guess that’s why it’s not called Victory Hummus Bar. Though if there was a hummus bar in Atlanta, I’m pretty sure it’d be my favorite thing ever.

I really liked this place, the sandwiches were very good and you can’t beat the price.

After eating, we met up with some friends at The Wrecking Bar for drinks. I’m not quite sure what happened. If it was the beer I drank there or just eating food or what, but I started feeling really nauseous again and we left early.
Good news is that I really do feel better today. Finally. Bad news is it’s Sunday night.

Ugh, I hate being sick on the weekends. Especially Saturday. I probably would have tried to power through too. Glad to hear you’re feeling better today though.
The weather was amazing on Saturday. I ran in Piedmont Park for the first time. It’s so pretty there. Glad you’re feeling better.
A hummus bar…I think you’re on to something!
Looks like a good sandwich!
A hummus bar…now you’re talking! I hope you’re feeling better today. The weather is wearing me out! I need sunshine. I’m loading up on vitamin D in hopes to force sunshine in my life.
Sorry you’re still feeling crappy. I can’t wait for the new Victory location to open in Decatur, I imagine we’ll be there all the time.
I went to Victory during Inman Park restaurant wk last year and it was also when I gave up meat so the selection was extremely limited. I need to try it again because I’ve heard better reviews since I went. Hope you feel better.
I love both Victory and Wrecking Bar!! Glad to hear you’re feeling better. And I agree on the hummus bar- you are a genius. Start.It.Up! It would totally be the new froyo.
What a fun date spot! I really like the name of your sandwich. A hummus bar? I’d be all over that too!!
Glad you’re feeling better. I’m impressed you managed four miles while not feeling well. This week is going to be a dud for running because of all this rain!
I went to Victory in December and really enjoyed it too. The jack and coke float was a fun bonus.
There was a lot of walking involved in those 4 miles!
